Firefox On Steroids

firefox It is no secret that of all my browsers I love Firefox the most.  (Sorry, Chrome, but that is just the way it is.)  One reason, is because it lets me customize it to do what I want it to do.  Here are some add-ons that will take Firefox from being a merely awesome and secure browser to being the Genie in your cyberspace bottle.

Xmarks (formerly Foxmarks) Sync your bookmarks across your browsers on any computer you use.

Google Toolbar for Firefox The layout option lets you replace the Firefox search box with a powerful one that may be customized.

Ubiquity With Ubiquity installed, you’ll be able to tell Firefox what you want it to do by typing commands into a new Ubiquity input box.  Search, map, mail, mash’em together.

Adblock Plus Get rid of all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page.

Morning Coffee This extension lets you organize websites by day and open them up simultaneously as part of your daily routine.

StumbleUpon StumbleUpon discovers web sites based on your interests, learns what you like and brings you more.  (In other words it replaces Solitaire as a time killer.  You might even find something really of interest.)

Read it Later Save pages of interest to read later. It eliminates cluttering up bookmarks with sites that are merely of a one-time interest.

Web Developer Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.  I use it to learn how other developers got the results I’m trying to achieve.

Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-out(TACO) Sets permanent opt-out cookies to stop behavioral advertising by 40 different advertising networks, including Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and nearly all other members of the Network Advertising Initiative.

Craigslist Image Preview Ext 3.0 This is a simple Firefox add-on that will allow you to see a thumbnail of the CraigsList images without clicking on each ad. Unfortunately, the current version is only for a trial period.

DownloadHelper The easy way to download and convert Web videos from hundreds of YouTube-like sites. This works also for audio and picture galleries.

DownThemAll! Download all the links or images contained in a webpage

Favicon Picker Adds UI for replacing bookmark with a favicon.  I just like favicons more than text on my bookmarks toolbar.

IE Tab Easily see how your web page displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.

I never tire of tweaking my browser, so I’d love to hear what you use to make Firefox do your bidding.  That’s what comments are for!
