Is This Insane?

Now, I’ve gone and done it. Turns out the little antenna that comes with my Hauppauge 950Q works better than any of the myriad of antennas I tried from Best Buy and Radio Shack. I ordered one for each TV.

They work so well in fact that I just hung up the phone from talking with Time-Warner Cable and having them disconnect my cable. Can I get by with my five broadcast channels and IPTV? Have I lost my mind? Kind of panicking here.

I would guess that at least half of my friends don’t have cable at this point, you’ll be fine! 🙂 Watching live sports is really the only issue.

Looks like I’m going to have to buy a Hauppauge 950Q…

Unless you are a sports fan, there is no need to even have a television these days(IMO). Most networks stream their shows on their website, news can be had in print form and video clips online, and of course, there is NetFlix for movies. The only reason we have a television at all is for the occasional live tennis match or ski tournament.

If you’re not using your computer as a DVR all you really need is the $7 antenna that goes with the 950Q (click on the antenna picture to go to their store). But, I only got PBS when I tried that antenna in Morgantown so location is important. The good news is that I won’t miss any of the NFL playoff games because they are all on broadcast channels. But if the Mountaineers make the NCAA tournament, I may be kicking myself.
