It has been a year since I started this blog. In January of 2009 I had 80 visitors. In January of 2010 I had over 4,000 visitors. My videos have been watched over 24,000 times. Peanuts compared to sponsored sites like Lifehacker or Engadget, but very gratifying indeed. I hope that you the readers-viewers have [...]
It wasn’t too long ago that I wrote that I had watched a string of good movies at the theater. You know, those movies that you feel like you didn’t waste your time and money when you decided to go the theater. As Joy and I were driving up to the local Marquee Cinema, [...]
There is a tribe of us who usually enjoy our pictures online. But occasionally we succumb to the urge to fell trees and emit VOCs by having hard copies of our art printed. We then find ourselves asking how big can the print be given the resolution of my picture. In an attempt to address [...]
Not everyone has a photo quality printer at home. Even those of us that do, don’t always have a printer that can handle larger sizes of photos. I haven’t ordered prints from any of these services and so can’t recommend any one of them. But I thought I probably wasn’t the only one interested in [...]
That is because I am on a roll. I admit My Life in Ruins about ruined me for movies, but since then I’ve seen three very good movies in a row. Other than Richard Dreyfuss, My Life in Ruins had no acting anywhere to be found. Is Greece beautiful? Yes, of course, but even [...]
Lifehack has a post on the topic 9 Lists to Keep Updated. They suggest: things I want, gift ideas, got a minute?, watch/read/listen, big hairy audaciaus goals (BHAGs), bucket list, don’t forget, great ideas, and the lowly grocery list. I found their ideas interesting, which surprises no one because I am a list fanatic. [...]
Back in the 1980’s I had a motorcycle wreck. After 27 surgeries my left leg was saved, but my knee was virtually fused. I had less than 5 degrees of flexion. Two years ago my knee was replaced. I still lack the soft tissue for full flexion, but 41 beats 5 [...]
Two hundred years ago today, Felix Mendellsohn was born. Until Wagner’s successful anti-Semitic attack on Jewish composers, Mendellsohn was easily the world’s most popular composer. While I remember reading his biography, what I remember most was putting the Scottish Symphony on the record player to help me fall asleep at night.
My favorite ride at Kennywood Park was the Jack Rabbit. As a child, I thought that roller coaster was the most deliciously scary experience of the summer. Last night was another wild Pittsburgh ride, as only last minute heroics by Big Ben and San Antonio Holmes (who modestly stated in an interview after [...]
The Soul on the Wall is a poem about a sense of place. The place in which our spirit feels most at home on this earth. I read my poem, following the break.

About LSS LSS is a nuts and bolts blog. Written by a geek who loves God, this journal reports my quest for technical perfection, environmental and social justice, and venting whatever else is going through my little pea-pickin' brain at the moment.
If you poke around a little, I'm sure you can find something to tick you off, but you might just find something that helps you, too. The former I consider collateral damage and the latter is my hope.
I'm not afraid of or offended by contrary opionions so I hope you'll use the comments to encourage, challenge, and inform myself and my readers. Thanks for visiting and don't forget to subscribe before you leave.
